What Defines a Good Ski Jacket?

While it may sound obvious, a ski jacket is the best type of jacket for skiing. Although all women’s winter jackets and men’s winter jackets available through our online store are made to protect you against the cold, a skiing or snowboarding trip presents very specific challenges your ski clothing should protect you against. That is why we don’t recommend going skiing or snowboarding wearing your regular winter jacket. The ski jackets for men and women from our collection of skiwear are equipped with a number of indispensable features for hitting the slopes in winter.

For example, our regular winter jackets are not equipped with snow gaiters. Our men’s and women’s ski jackets are. A snow gaiter is a piece of fabric that is attached to the inner lining of your ski jacket, which you can fasten at the front of your jacket. Since the bottom of a snow gaiter is elastic, and therefore fits snugly, it prevents snow from entering your ski jacket from the bottom. In addition, some of our ski jackets are equipped with zips under the armpits for additional ventilation when you get hot during skiing or snowboarding.

When looking at the specific jacket designs that are most suitable for skiing, we can say that most of our ski jackets are a cross between puffer jackets and bomber jackets . Just like our puffer jackets for women and men, our ski jackets are lined with a thick, warm layer of fabric, which has been quilted to stay in place. The elastic cuffs and waistbands, on the other hand, are something they have in common with our men’s and women’s bomber jackets . These will keep the cold mountain air from entering your jacket.

A Ski Jacket and Ski Pants or a Ski Suit?

Instead of a ski jacket and a pair of ski pants, you can also choose to wear one of our ski suits for women . The biggest advantage of a ski suit compared to a ski jacket and ski pants is that the garments cannot be separated. As a result, snow can’t get through between your pants and jacket, not even when you fall into a thick layer of snow. This is especially beneficial if you plan to go skiing or snowboarding in powder snow, which tends to swirl upward. Since our ski suits are made from water-repellent, windproof fabrics, comfort is guaranteed.

Cold air is also from entering between the pants and the jacket part of your ski suit. Because of this, a ski suit is generally warmer than a combination of ski pants and a ski jacket. This is further enhanced by the fact that a ski suit retains the warmth coming off your entire body. Another advantage of Airforce ski suits is the fact that their designs are super stylish. Some of our women’s ski suits look like you are wearing a separate ski jacket and ski pants, even though they are connected. This design combines protection, comfort, and style on the slopes.

All ski suits from our collection of skiwear are made from fabrics that last a long time and are flexible enough to enable efficient movement. So if you wear an Airforce ski suit, you can rely on it providing the mobility you need while skiing or snowboarding.

What Fit Is Best for Skiing?

Aside from a ski jacket’s design and the high-quality fabrics we use, a jacket’s fit also greatly impacts its suitability for skiing or snowboarding. In general, we recommend choosing to wear a ski jacket with a relatively roomy fit. There are two important reasons for this. First off, freeriding and snowboarding are the most commonly practiced winter sports. These sports require optimal mobility, which is more or less guaranteed if you wear a ski jacket or a ski suit with a relatively large fit. Such a fit also enables wearing additional layers of clothing under your ski jacket on particularly chilly days.

There are specialized ski jackets with a more snug fit. These have primarily been designed for experienced athletes who practice difficult winter sports, such as alpine skiing or slalom skiing. These sports require an aerodynamic ski outfit that generates as little air resistance as possible. Most people going on a skiing trip will be better off with ski clothing that runs relatively large, however. Our thermal ski clothing does fit more snugly in order to properly protect you from the cold you have to deal with at great altitudes.
