What Are Airforce Women’s Bodywarmers Made of?
The biggest difference between bodywarmers today and when they were first made is in the fabrics out of which the are made. Originally, parachute silk was used for the inner and outer shells. The lining was made out of down. Down has the advantage that it weighs very little, but it reliably retains warm air at the same time. This way, the warmth will not interfere with your comfort. These days, it is possible to make an equally comfortable, thermal lining without harming animals by using synthetic fabrics, like polyester. Those are the exact fabrics we have used to make our gilets.
We also use polyester for the layer that you wear on the inside. This fabric is ideal for summer jackets and gilets, because it is breathable, flexible and lightweight. For some of our gilets, we have even used a blend of polyester fibres and elastic fibres, such as spandex or elastane. This will give your gilet some extra stretch. The outer shells of our bodywarmers have also been made out of polyester, though we also have a couple of thinner gilets with a nylon outer shell.
