What Fabrics Are Airforce Men’s Bodywarmers Made of?
The bodywarmer might just be the oldest design we have on offer: this type of jacket has been around for more than five hundred years! However, that does not mean that the designs have remained unchanged in the meantime. For example, it is no longer common to make gilets out of parachute silk and down. The main reason for this is the fact that synthetic fibres allow us to make an equally lightweight lining with similar thermal properties these days, only much more cheaply, conveniently, and above all environmentally friendly. Our bodywarmers lined with DuPont™ Sorona® are great examples of this, but we also have gilets with a warm, lightweight polyester lining.
Instead of parachute silk, most manufacturers use polyester to make the inner shell of gilets these days. Polyester is a comfortable, breathable fabric that is flexible enough to allow for optimal movement. If you plan to wear your new gilet during your outdoor workout, we recommend choosing a gilet made out of a blend of polyester and elastane or spandex. Elastane and spandex fibres are stretchy, so a jacket or gilet with these fibres will be especially comfortable while exercising. Some of our thinner gilets have an outer shell made out of nylon.
